DiTNE welcomes the ProLIGHTmed project partners to Brindisi: Two days of discussion on sustainable public lighting during the fourth project meeting

The fourth meeting of the European project ProLIGHTmed, “Progressive solutions in greener optimization of public lighting in Euro-MED area”, organized in Brindisi by DiTNE – National Technological District on Energy, as the Italian partner of the project.

Funded by the Interreg Euro-MED 2021/2027 Programme, ProLIGHTmed aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that improve the quality of public lighting and reduce CO₂ emissions in urban contexts in 8 Euro-Mediterranean countries: Italy, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Albania and Portugal.

The meeting, which began on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 18, at the DiTNE headquarters in Palazzo Guerrieri, brought together for two days representatives of the project's international partners, including DiTNE (Italy), the Municipality of Tuzi (Montenegro), the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Authorities (Bulgaria), the Arrábida Energy and Environment Agency – ENA (Portugal), the Municipality of Lezhë (Albania), the City of Kaštela (Croatia), the University of Crete (Greece), and the Municipality of Akamas (Cyprus). It represented an important opportunity for technical, strategic, and operational discussion on the project's progress, as well as a moment to strengthen transnational cooperation on key issues such as the adoption of smart technologies, reducing energy consumption, and optimizing public services in urban areas.

The Mayor of Brindisi, Giuseppe Marchionna, opened the meeting with a warm welcome, emphasizing how ProLIGHTmed represents a virtuous example of cross-border collaboration aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills regarding the adoption of more efficient energy solutions, capable of improving the quality of public lighting and reducing CO₂ emissions. "For a city like Brindisi, committed to the energy and environmental transition, projects like this represent concrete and replicable tools for more sustainable management of local public services," the Mayor concluded.

The second day took place at the Franco Fanuzzi Municipal Stadium, recently redeveloped thanks to an advanced energy efficiency project carried out by City Green Light Srl, under a public-private agreement.

Opening the theoretical and technical session were Architect Fabio Lacinio, Director of the Public Works Department of the Municipality of Brindisi, and Dr. Kejsi Bushpepa, Business Development Specialist, together with Dr. Francesco Summo, Proposal Specialist, representing the City Green Light company.

In addition to replacing 54 obsolete lighting fixtures with new LED sources, Kejsi Bushpepa explained, the project carried out by City Green Light Srl included the installation of 6 new LED floodlight towers, equipped with a real-time remote control system. These were specifically designed to illuminate playing fields in sports and multipurpose facilities, and are integrated with backup power sources, including generators and UPS systems.

This is a concrete best practice, as well as a virtuous example, replicable and transferable to other international contexts, which embodies the shared commitment between City Green Light and the Municipality of Brindisi to environmental sustainability and decarbonization.

The DiTNE expressed great pride in the successful outcome of the two-day event in Brindisi, confirming its role as a catalyst for energy innovation in the Mediterranean region and concretely demonstrating, through the example of the Fanuzzi Stadium, how advanced technologies can transform urban public services and contribute to improving the quality of life.
