The Living Lab “Co-design of digital solutions for marine waste management,” promoted by DiTNE and hosted at Palazzo Guerrieri, was successfully held on November 27, 2025, as part of the EASY WASTE project “Efficient Ports Waste Management Solutions for Blue Circular Economy”, funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy 2021/2027 Programme.
The initiative brought together fishermen, port authorities, environmental operators, and local stakeholders in an intensive co-design session dedicated to developing innovative digital solutions for the management of accidentally caught waste in the ports of the cross-border area.
The working groups addressed three key topics: validation of the state of the art and analysis of the operational context in the ports; the use of the “user journey mapping”, to identify critical issues and the real needs of users; definition of the functional requirements of the future digital platforms, with priority classification using the MoSCoW Matrix.
The Living Lab, a crucial part of Work Package 3 “Analysis, Design, and Development”, represented a structured environment for co-creation and co-design, designed to ensure that the technological products under development in the project — the mobile app and the web platform — fully comply with regulations as well as with the needs of end users: fishermen, port operators, and competent authorities. The participatory approach made it possible to bring together, in a single discussion space, stakeholders with different roles and perspectives, in order to gather insights, observations, and concrete needs related to the processes of identifying, collecting, and managing marine waste. A shared objective that lies at the heart of the EASY WASTE project’s mission, in which DiTNE serves as lead partner within a consortium composed of Italian partners (theITS for Sustainable Mobility “Ge. In. Logistic” of Taranto and the Port System Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea) and Greek partners (the Patras Science Park S.A. and the Municipal Harbour Fund of Pyrgos – Katakolo Port).
