DiTNE is the lead partner of the project “EASY WASTE – Efficient Ports Waste Management Solutions for Blue Circular Economy”, co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy 2021/2027 Programme.
The EASY WASTE project tackles the issue of marine litter in the maritime area between Greece and Italy with determination, focusing particularly on waste dispersed both accidentally and intentionally. By promoting efficient collaboration between fishermen and port authorities, it provides comprehensive and innovative solutions capable of transforming critical waste management. The core of the project lies in improving systems for identifying and verifying marine waste through the use of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, while also introducing incentive mechanisms to encourage fishermen to collect dispersed materials, including plastics, thereby making a concrete contribution to the protection of the marine environment. An essential element of the project is the training and awareness-raising activities aimed at port staff and fishermen, with the goal of increasing awareness of the environmental impact of marine litter and enhancing skills for more effective waste management and disposal.
Led by DiTNE, EASY WASTE involves 4 additional partners from Italy and Greece:
- ITS for Sustainable Mobility “Ge. In. Logistic” of Taranto (Italy);
- Port System Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea (Italy);
- Patras Science Park S.A. (Greece);
- Municipal Harbour Fund of Pyrgos – Katakolo Port (Greece).
The activities of the EASY WASTE project — which has a total budget of €1,566,281.28 — began on May 27, 2025, and will conclude by May 27, 2027, for a total duration of 24 months.
